Neurodiverse -Affirming

Neurodiverse-affirming therapy recognizes the strengths and unique perspectives of neurodivergent individuals. My work emphasizes understanding, support, and practical strategies that help clients and families thrive in relationships, school, work, and daily life, while building self-awareness, resilience, and connection.

With over 20 years of experience working with neurodiverse populations across schools, hospitals, extracurricular programs, and private clinical practice, I bring a deep understanding of the diverse needs and strengths of neurodivergent individuals. I am a member of the Association for Autism and Neurodiversity Professional Collaborative and have provided guidance and consultation to families, educational teams, and clinical professionals throughout my career. This extensive experience informs my work with children, teens, adults, parents, and couples, allowing me to provide highly informed, affirming, and individualized support.

  • Neurodivergent Children and Teens

I work with children and teens to help them manage stress, navigate social and emotional challenges, and communicate their needs more effectively. Using a combination of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), brain-based strategies, and evidence-informed programs such as Zones of Regulation and the Incredible 5-Point Scale, we focus on developing self-regulation, coping skills, executive function skills, and emotional awareness. Social understanding and peer relationships are supported through frameworks from Social Thinking, helping children and teens approach interactions with greater confidence.

  • Neurodivergent Adults

Support for neurodivergent adults focuses on understanding oneself, managing stress, and navigating relationships, while addressing the goals each individual brings to therapy. Sessions may explore areas such as executive functioning, masking, self-advocacy, and daily stressors. This work is collaborative and affirming, emphasizing insight, resilience, and self-compassion and honoring each person’s unique perspective.

  • Parenting a Neurodivergent Child

Parents receive guidance, support, and strategies for raising a neurodivergent child. Sessions may focus on understanding your child’s unique strengths and challenges, managing anxious or difficult behaviors, navigating school or social concerns, and strategies for advocacy in your extended family and community. Evidence-based approaches and parent coaching help parents to develop practical tools for nurturing their own emotional well-being, self-regulation, and resilience. My goal is for parents to feel more confident, supported, and empowered as they guide their child’s growth and development.

  • Neurodiverse Couples / Relationships

Couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent often navigate unique differences in communication, processing, and social-emotional needs. Therapy in this context tends to be more directed and skills-focused, providing concrete strategies for communication, conflict resolution, expressing emotions, and sharing ideas. Sessions may address challenges such as differing processing styles, social-emotional needs, and relationship expectations, while remaining responsive to whatever each couple brings to therapy. The work emphasizes mutual understanding, empathy, and collaboration, helping partners build stronger, more resilient relationships.
